Edmund Casper has been a psychiatrist for over 40 years. Before establishing a private practice of psychiatry, marital therapy and addiction psychiatry practice in 2005, Dr, Casper was the director of Behavioral Health at the Denver Department of Health and Hospitals for 35 years. He served in the United States Army as a psychiatrist in Vietnam and at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center . In addition to his private practice, he consults with the Mental Health Institute at Pueblo. Dr. Casper is a mayoral appointee who has served on the board of MHCD since June 2006.
Dr. Casper was a founding member of the American Academy of Psychiatrists in Alcoholism and Addictions. He is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, and the Denver Medical Society. Articles by Dr. Casper are published in numerous medical journals, military publications, and newspapers throughout the country.
He serves as examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is an associate professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Dr. Casper received his bachelor's degree in chemistry, with a minor in biology from Kent State University and an MD from Ohio State University College of Medicine. Awarded the Bronze Star Commendation on three separate occasions, Dr. Casper is a retired United States Army Colonel. He is married and has three children.
