The Center for Integrated Psychological Services (CIPS) at MHCD is a fee-for-service assessment and therapy clinic. Our services include a wide range of psychological assessments, behavioral medicine evaluations, and therapeutic interventions. All of CIPS' services utilize an integrated approach to promote the psychological and physical well-being of our clients.

The team at The Center for Integrated Psychological Services at MHCD understands that change can be very difficult. It is true that one cannot embark on the journey of change until ready. This dilemma in change is the reason CIPS developed a unique approach to the assessment process. In addition to a comprehensive assessment that will help better understand the client’s presenting issues, the staff offers brief, targeted therapeutic interventions as appropriate that help empower and motivate clients and give them the courage to move toward positive change.

Understanding how the mind and the body influence each other can have a profound impact on the diagnosis and recovery of the client. Clients referred for a behavioral medicine evaluation will not only participate in a comprehensive assessment that will provide clarity regarding the psychological factors impacting their medical concerns, they will also be offered the unique opportunity to engage in brief, therapeutic interventions. The goal of our inclusive process is to enhance the client’s medical treatment and provide them with the motivation and courage to improve their quality of life and restore hope for their future. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Learning Disabilities (LD): Learning, attention, and behavioral difficulties, in both children and adults, are often difficult to diagnosis, understand, and manage. The CIPS comprehensive assessment process is tailored to examine all factors that may be contributing to the client’s difficulties. Our goal is to help provide clarification of the client’s symptoms and provide an appropriate diagnosis, if applicable. These interventions often focus on achieving the behavior change necessary for academic, emotional, and social growth and development. As needed, the Center staff collaborates with the client’s physician and makes appropriate community referrals to help ensure continuity of care. Personality, Emotional, and/or Interpersonal Functioning: Personality assessment can help better understand the dynamic group of unique characteristics that influence how a person thinks, behaves, and reacts to certain situations. Assessment can provide excellent insight into a person’s personality structure, providing clarity around their thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and interpersonal relationships. The Center for Integrated Psychological Services believes that psychological assessment can be an enriching and transformative experience for the client. Each assessment utilizes a collaborative, therapeutic approach actively involving the client in the assessment process, empowering clients to explore their own curiosities, and aiding in moving them toward positive change. The goal is to gain an understanding of the whole person, interpreting test results in the context of one’s culture and value system. Understanding how the clients’ social, emotional, spiritual, and occupational aspects of their lives impact their world view, self-concept, and overall health is a critical part of the process. This client-centered approach fosters trust and enhances personal motivation, in turn yielding valuable information for both the client and referring party. This reciprocal process is completed by integrating mutual respect, empathy, and the administration of established assessment procedures, all of which are complemented by brief interventions with the client, when appropriate.
