What We Believe

Recovery is at the very heart and soul of our work at the Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD).

We believe people can, and do, recover from mental illness. We are recognized nationally for our successful, ground-breaking approach to mental health treatment. Here our consumers are involved in shaping their own recovery and given the chance to regain control of their lives.

Recovery takes on many meanings but for most it means appropriate and compassionate treatment for a mental health problem so that the individual can get back to living a happy and productive life. That's what we provide at MHCD.

Our mission is “enriching lives and minds by focusing on strengths and recovery.” We focus on what people can do, not what they can't.

Misconceptions about what mental illness is abound. Mental illness is an organic disease of the brain that impairs moods, thoughts and behaviors. Depression and anxiety disorders are examples. Left untreated, it can destroy the lives of individuals and their families. In fact, 1 in 5 Coloradoans needs mental health services at some point in their life, yet less than one-third receive help.

We want our community to understand emotional and mental health issues and how important they are to the health of our community and the people in it.

We are passionate about recovery and the difference we make in the lives of thousands of Denver residents. Read Robert's Story.
