2Succeed in Education

2Succeed in Education is a comprehensive program of academic, career, and personal development. “We help our students get an education, a job, and a life,” says Scott Utash, Program Manager of 2Succeed in Education. The program is open 365 days a year serving over 600 people.

Academic Development

2Succeed in Education provides support for students who take classes at the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and Emily Griffith Opportunity School. A staff member from 2Succeed in Education works at the Auraria campus helping with financial aid and disability services. The program offers help with tutoring and a support group where students learn from others who have been there and done that.

2Succeed in Education and the Mental Health Center of Denver participate in the Auraria Campus Disability Awareness Day every year providing information about psychological disabilities and recovery. Sally's Cafe(see below) provided food for 500 during last year's event.

Career Development

Career programs at 2Succeed in Education cover a variety of skills and industries so that students can move into the business world to develop security and independence. See the Course Catalog.
  • General education courses help students get on the life development track. GED and basic math classes are available along with life skills, social strategies, and budgeting.
  • Computer training begins with Computer Orientation and Keyboarding and progresses to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Internet research and resume writing are other options.
  • Sally's Cafe offers training in the culinary arts leading to careers in catering, restaurant, and food service. Sally's provides lunch daily at the 2Succeed in Education center, and caters for non-profit events ranging from 20 to 500 meals.

Vocational Support Group meets weekly for people working or looking for work.

Personal Growth

A student-run store finances a social and recreational program. Coffee club and ice cream socials keep friends in touch. Fun times include attending the stock show, the symphony and plays, and like Rockies, Nuggets and Avalanche games. Ping pong, bowling, and ice skating contribute both to fun and wellness.

Wellness is a major part of personal development and recovery. 2Succeed in Education offers a variety of wellness learning and services including

Art and music are vigorous parts of the 2Succeed program. Paintings and drawings by many students are displayed and sold at galleries around town. Music lessons and sessions are both fun and profitable. There is karaoke every Monday afternoon for a good time. Several 2Succeed musicians have performed at public events and jazz clubs.

2Succeed in Education is a comprehensive active program promoting recovery for people with serious and persistent mental illness. We believe that people with mental illness can and do recover. At 2Succeed in Education and the Mental Health Center of Denver, we help that happen.
