Voz y Corazon
Voz y Corazon is a suicide prevention project that has been designed by teens, involves teens and supports teens in their efforts to develop solid identities. Our fantastic organization partners include Denver Area Youth Services, Denver Public Schools, Girls Incorporated of Metro Denver, Hermanas de Color Unidas para Educacion, and The Colorado Trust. Together, we have launched a project that values the healing power of culture, connectedness, and caring.
Voz y Corazon provides suicide prevention training and support to teens that are part of the West Denver community. The suicide prevention training is working! The girls report a substantial effort to use their gatekeeper skills and they are referring suicidal individuals to professional help quickly and appropriately. The girls also have drop-in sites around the community for gathering together, sharing, connecting with a mentor, and “doing art.” These girls have incredible talents and multiple strengths. We focus a lot of attention on the development of internal talents and personal expression in ways that honor the cultural heritage of our participants. These teens are smart, thoughtful and creative.
