EXEMPLARY PROGRAMS

MHCD has made profound contributions and gained national recognition for
innovative programs such as:

CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES

Right Start for Infant Mental Health

This program provides clinical services to pregnant women as well as children from birth to age three when family circumstances put them at risk for social or mental health problems. MHCD psychologists and therapists work exclusively with infants, toddler, preschoolers and their families and services take place in homes whenever possible. Services include: parent-child groups, child and family therapy, and case management.

Voz y Corazón

Voz y Corazón (or “Voice and Heart”) confronts the sad reality that suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers and young adults in Colorado. Designed by and for teens, the program provides free, community-based, culturally sensitive mentoring and suicide prevention services to teens and their families. It has developed a safe, secure community for teens that fosters hope, respect and dignity and helps the teens to develop faith in themselves and a positive outlook on the future. More Information

A New Day Family Resource Center

This center serves children and families who are impacted by mental illness by providing essential services and access to a food bank and free thrift store. As families come to A New Day to receive food, clothing, and household supplies, they also gain access to parenting classes, help with job seeking, and other support services. At A New Day at-risk youth (ages 16-24) can access counseling, employment and other supportive services. More Information

ADULT RECOVERY SERVICES

Growth and Recovery Opportunities for Women (GROW)

In this multi-faceted program of integrated treatment and support services, therapists respond to the needs of women who are impacted by mental illness, trauma, domestic violence, substance abuse and homelessness. It is a “mobile” approach with a psychiatrist, a nurse, three case managers, a program manager and a project director providing outreach and treatment in the community.

Court to Community Treatment Program

This jail diversion program is designed for individuals with mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse disorders with histories of repeated arrests and court appearances resulting from their untreated mental illnesses. In partnership with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, program personnel work with judges, public defenders, city attorneys, jail personnel, and law enforcement to make sure individuals receive appropriate treatment and services instead of jail time.

Integrated Physical and Mental Healthcare

People who live with a mental illness die earlier than their peers from physical illness. MHCD’s integrated care model confronts this challenge by providing both primary and mental healthcare services. The integrated model helps those we serve overcome barriers to primary care and assists them in also managing chronic physical conditions. This approach may result in reduction of unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency room visits.

REHABILITATION SERVICES

2Succeed Supported Education Programs

This comprehensive program of academic, career, and personal development is offered all year long. Academic support is provided for students taking classes at the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, the University of Colorado at Denver, and Emily Griffith Technical School. Career programs include general education courses for GED completion, computer training, on-the-job culinary arts training, and vocational support groups.

2Succeed Supported Employment Programs

By providing area businesses with productive and motivated employees, MHCD assists those it serves by helping them find employment. Employment services include support in completing job applications, resume writing, interviewing, business attire consultation, time management, professionalism on the job, career assessments, job placement, and work site follow-up.

Recovery Through Art

Through artistic expression, people receiving services at 2Succeed can create friendships, build self-esteem, and generate new ideas about the world around them and how they can interact in a positive way in the community. Art allows consumers to communicate ideas, exercise new skills and express emotions. At 2Succeed, art and music are effective components of recovery.
